Fun Facts:
  • Colossosuchus (Kol-oss-oh-suk-us) – A giant phytosaur from the Late Triassic of India. Phytosaurs were mostly semiaquatic reptiles that looked very similar to modern crocodiles, but they were not closely related. Their nostrils, for example, were positioned near the eyes rather than at the tip of the snout. The fossil remains of Colossosuchus were found in a single bonebed containing the remains of at least 21 individuals. This reptile is thought to represent one of the largest phytosaurs ever discovered, with a total body length exceeding 8 metres. It was scientifically described in 2023, and its discovery highlights the rich and diverse fauna that inhabited India approximately 220 million years ago, offering new insights into Late Triassic ecosystems.
