- Maip macrothorax (My-eep mac-row-thor-ax) – Formally described in 2022 from fragmentary material, Maip belongs to a group of carnivorous dinosaurs known as "megaraptors" the Megaraptoridae. At around 9.5 to 10 metres in length, it is the biggest "megaraptor" currently known. It was a fearsome, apex predator that lived in southern Argentina at the very end of the Cretaceous. It had long, strong arms and grasping claws. Rib bones indicate that Maip was deep chested and extremely robust. It was named after an evil spirit of the Andes. The discovery of Maip lends support to the theory that these dinosaurs were not members of the Allosauria clade, but they were coelurosaurs and therefore related to the dinosaur lineage that gave rise to the birds.
